Beechwood’s volleyball program continued its dominance by claiming back-to-back regional championships in the Ninth Region All “A” tournament. The Tigers defeated St. Henry in a competitive matchup with a final score of 23-25, 25-12, 25-18 on August 27, securing their second consecutive regional title. The victory came at home, where the team hosted the tournament at “The Den” in front of a packed crowd featuring fans dressed in coordinated white attire.
Several factors contributed to Beechwood’s success in the championship match. Young players made significant impacts, particularly at the service line where Kennedy Sturgeon, Emma Harris, and Payce Adams combined for 11 aces. The team’s offensive strategy also proved effective, with middle hitters Macy Armstrong and Rachel Lewandowski combining for 19 kills and three blocks. Senior setter Skylr Estep orchestrated the attack, while tournament MVP Isabel O’Brien provided consistent production across all rotations.
Coach Matt Long emphasized his team’s ability to adjust and maintain composure after dropping the opening set. The Tigers responded with decisive performances in sets two and three, demonstrating resilience and tactical awareness. The young roster’s performance earned praise from O’Brien, who highlighted their contributions and character throughout the season.
Beechwood now shifts focus to the All “A” state tournament scheduled for September 18-19 in Owensboro. The Tigers enter as defending state champions and will compete in pool play against regional champions from other sections before advancing to the championship bracket.
