Arizona State football coach Kenny Dillingham has yet to officially announce his starting quarterback ahead of the Sun Devils’ season opener against Morgan State on September 5. Despite indicating he would name a starter by August 23 or 24, Dillingham remained uncommitted on the topic following practice on August 25 at the Verde Dickey Dome.
Kentucky transfer Cutter Boley appears to be the leading candidate for the position. The quarterback has been receiving first-team repetitions throughout fall camp and celebrated his 21st birthday on August 25. When asked about the decision, Dillingham praised Boley’s performance and consistency, though he stopped short of making an official announcement.
The search for a starting quarterback has narrowed to two primary candidates. In addition to Boley, Chandler High School product Mikey Keene remains in contention. Keene is currently on his fourth college football team. Dillingham indicated the decision would come within the next week, which would still provide the team with adequate time before the season’s start.
