Apple’s upcoming smartwatch lineup will feature only incremental improvements this year, according to reports from industry analyst Mark Gurman. The Apple Watch Series 12 and Apple Watch Ultra 4, expected to launch on September 9, will prioritize cosmetic enhancements over substantial functional changes.
The most notable aesthetic update involves new ceramic case finishes in white and gray for the Series 12 model. The tech company is also preparing an expanded selection of band colors and styles to accompany the new devices. These color variations represent the primary visual refresh consumers can anticipate for the 2026 generation.
On the health and fitness front, Apple is testing continuous heart-rate monitoring rather than periodic data collection during exercises or at random intervals. The company may also enhance its wellness software to display additional health-related metrics within the fitness application. Despite these minor upgrades, major design overhauls will be deferred to next year’s iteration.
The timing of these announcements, arriving just days before the scheduled product launch, suggests that significant surprises are unlikely. Apple appears to be taking a measured approach with this generation while positioning more substantial improvements for the following year’s models.
