Apple has unveiled its refreshed desktop lineup, introducing the M6 Mac mini and M5 Ultra Mac Studio in a surprise announcement that came just one day after initial reports surfaced about the upcoming releases. According to company executives, the new processors deliver significant advances in performance and artificial intelligence capabilities for professional and everyday computing tasks.
The M6 Mac mini features a dual 16-core neural engine designed to handle on-device AI applications with performance roughly double that of previous generations. Starting at $899 for the base model with 16GB of memory and 256GB of storage, the device also comes in an M5 Pro configuration priced at $1,699. The compact desktop has gained traction among users managing AI workflows, with stock availability sometimes limited throughout 2026.
Apple’s Mac Studio received an equally substantial upgrade with the introduction of the M5 Ultra chip, marking the company’s most powerful processor to date. The flagship configuration offers up to 36 processing cores, 80 graphics cores, and 512GB of unified memory, starting at $5,499. A less powerful M5 Max variant of the Mac Studio begins at $2,499. Both devices support preorder immediately and arrive August 22.
These desktop announcements precede Apple’s traditional September event, where the company plans to showcase the iPhone 18 lineup, a foldable iPhone model, updated smart home products, and new Apple Watch models.
