Anthropic has expanded the capabilities of its Claude artificial intelligence assistant through an updated integration with Google Workspace. The enhancement allows Claude to manage Gmail inboxes more comprehensively, including sending, replying to, and forwarding emails without requiring explicit user approval for each action.
While Claude Connectors linking the AI to Google Workspace applications like Gmail, Google Calendar, and Google Drive have existed previously, this week’s update introduces a significant new feature. Users can now permit Claude to independently send composed messages after the AI drafts a response, eliminating the need for manual approval at the send stage. The human user must still initiate the drafting or reply request, but Claude completes the sending process autonomously once granted permission.
Anthropic maintains that approval requirements remain the default setting for Claude users. Those wishing to enable autonomous email sending must actively modify their account preferences to grant Claude this capability. Additionally, this functionality is restricted to subscribers of Claude’s paid plans, with free tier users unable to access the feature.
Users retain control over their account settings and can adjust when Claude requires approval before sending correspondence. This approach allows individuals to customize their comfort level with AI-handled email management while maintaining oversight of their communications.
