Andy “The Butcher” Williams, a 48-year-old professional wrestler and accomplished musician, died Saturday evening following a medical emergency during a wrestling event in Millvale, Pennsylvania. Williams collapsed at the conclusion of his match and was transported to a nearby hospital, where he was pronounced dead. Event organizers immediately suspended the remainder of the competition following the incident.
Williams maintained a dual career spanning both music and professional wrestling. He co-founded the metalcore group Every Time I Die in Buffalo, New York in 1998, which released nine studio albums before disbanding in 2022. More recently, he performed guitar for the band Atomic Rule, which had scheduled a West Coast tour with GWAR beginning in November. Hours before his death, Williams posted enthusiastically about upcoming projects with his current musical venture.
His wrestling career began in 2015 on the independent circuit at age 37, eventually leading to a contract with All Elite Wrestling in 2019. He performed as “The Butcher” alongside tag-team partner Jesse “The Blade” Guilmette. Though their All Elite Wrestling contracts expired in June, the pair had returned to independent wrestling. All Elite Wrestling issued a statement acknowledging Williams as a respected figure in both the music and wrestling communities.
