The popular true-crime documentary series “48 Hours” is expanding its digital reach with a new multimedia podcast venture. Correspondent Erin Moriarty will helm “The Woman in the Woods,” a six-part series that represents a significant shift in the show’s podcast strategy by incorporating both audio and video storytelling elements.
Unlike previous podcast offerings from the series, which featured audio-only content, this new project will combine traditional narration with previously unreleased video footage, photographs, and animated text. Each episode will be released simultaneously in both audio and video formats, with the video versions available on the “48 Hours” YouTube channel.
The podcast investigates the mysterious case of Mindi Kassotis, whose friends believed she had died in a hospital. Months later, they were informed her husband Nick had also passed away. That narrative collapsed when a dismembered body discovered in a Georgia swamp appeared to match Mindi’s description. Throughout her investigation, Moriarty examines Nick’s military background and its potential impact on the couple, along with questions about Mindi’s isolation from friends.
