The Jacksonville Jaguars have placed offensive lineman Patrick Mekari and defensive end Zach Durfee on injured reserve with designations allowing them to return during the season. Both players must sit out a minimum of four games before becoming eligible to rejoin the team.
Mekari’s placement follows back surgery he underwent in mid-August, though the organization anticipates his eventual return this year. His absence opens opportunities for other linemen, with Ezra Cleveland and rookie Emmanuel Pregnon taking over guard duties during recent practices. Durfee, a seventh-round draft pick acquired in April, is sidelined with an upper-body injury and did not appear in the team’s final preseason matchup.
Teams are permitted to designate up to two players for return from injured reserve prior to finalizing their initial 53-man rosters. The Jaguars utilized both available designations with these two roster moves as the organization prepares for the upcoming season.
