Nikita Bier, who served as head of product at X, has announced his departure from the role after just over a year in the position. Bier stated he will transition into an advisory capacity, describing his move as returning to his “natural state” as a user of the platform. The announcement came shortly after he marked his one-year tenure milestone and follows the recent public listing of Elon Musk’s combined SpaceX, X, and xAI ventures.
During his time leading product development, Bier oversaw significant reconstruction efforts across the platform. Major updates under his direction included redesigns to the timeline, Android application, messaging features, and notification systems. He also highlighted the recent launch of X Money, a payment feature that had been delayed for an extended period.
Leadership transitions are already underway, with Benji Taylor assuming design responsibilities. iOS lead Jonah Katz and Mridul Singhai will share leadership of the product team moving forward. Bier brings notable entrepreneurial experience to his departure, having previously co-founded startups tbh and Gas, both of which were acquired by Meta and Discord respectively.
