The University of Washington’s football program faces significant depth concerns at running back following injuries sustained during their 24-10 Apple Cup victory over Washington State on Sunday. Second-year player Quaid Carr departed in the first half of his inaugural start after accumulating 28 rushing yards and one reception. Head coach Jedd Fisch confirmed that Carr requires surgery on his hand and will be sidelined for several weeks, with uncertainty surrounding whether he might miss the remainder of the season.
Compounding the backfield troubles, fourth-year running back Jayden Limar suffered an elbow injury late in the fourth quarter and will also miss extended time. The injuries come on top of a pre-existing setback, as third-year player Jordan Washington has been dealing with a neck injury sustained during spring practice, further depleting the position’s available talent.
With the top two backs unavailable, the Huskies must rely on sixth-year veteran Trey Cooley and freshmen Brian Bonner and Ansu Sanoe to handle primary duties in the backfield. Fisch acknowledged the concerning lack of depth and indicated he is exploring unconventional options, including potentially deploying tight end and fullback Kade Eldridge in running back packages to bolster offensive production moving forward.
