Romana Didulo, a woman born in the Philippines who later claimed royal status, emerged as a prominent conspiracy theorist and became the self-proclaimed leader of a group calling itself the Kingdom of Canada. Beginning around 2020, Didulo declared herself prime minister and established an unregistered political party, using online videos to promote anti-globalist messaging and pandemic-related conspiracy theories. She gained a significant following by promising extraordinary solutions, including debt elimination and cancer cures, while framing herself as a divine messenger sent to rescue her devoted supporters.
By 2023, Didulo’s influence had materialized into a physical compound when approximately 20 followers occupied an abandoned schoolhouse in rural Saskatchewan. The group painted the structure purple and established their own governance system, complete with self-created laws and threats of violence against nearby residents. Living conditions were severely inadequate, with members sleeping in classrooms and using makeshift sanitation facilities while their leader occupied a more comfortable space with a specially constructed private bathroom.
The situation deteriorated as the compound became increasingly isolated and potentially dangerous. Investigators discovered suspicious fuel and firewood caches positioned throughout the building, leading authorities to theorize the group may have been preparing for a violent confrontation with the government. The 2025 federal raid that ended the occupation revealed the extent of the deterioration, with officials documenting hazardous living conditions and disturbing evidence of the group’s isolation from mainstream society.
