Apple is preparing to unveil its iPhone 18 lineup on September 9, marking another year of innovation for the company’s flagship device. While the iPhone 18 Pro and Pro Max models are expected to launch that day, the standard iPhone 18 may not reach consumers until early 2027. The event, titled “Surprise and Shine,” will showcase the premium devices alongside the company’s first-ever foldable iPhone.
Significant price increases appear inevitable for the new models, driven by rising memory chip costs and industry-wide component shortages. Memory components alone could cost Apple $150 more per device compared to the previous generation, potentially pushing the iPhone 18 Pro to approximately $1,399 — a jump of up to $300 from current pricing. These increases reflect broader challenges affecting the entire smartphone market this year.
The upcoming devices feature several notable hardware improvements, including larger 5,000mAh batteries, enhanced display brightness, and substantial camera upgrades. The Pro models will reportedly offer variable aperture technology on the main camera, enabling more sophisticated photographic control. A smaller Dynamic Island cutout and four color options — silver, dark gray, light blue, and burgundy — are also anticipated. Running iOS 27 with an upgraded Siri AI, these phones will incorporate new A20 processors designed to better support artificial intelligence features.
