Samsung has unveiled the Galaxy Z Fold 8 Ultra, a rebranded successor to last year’s Z Fold 7 that maintains its predecessor’s strengths while offering incremental improvements. The device retains the slim, ergonomic form factor that made the previous model comfortable to hold, paired with vibrant displays and a substantially larger battery. However, the $2,099 price tag represents a $100 increase despite minimal design changes.
The new foldable features a marginally thinner profile at 4.1mm and a more powerful Snapdragon processor, but the most significant upgrade comes in battery capacity, which jumps from 4,400mAh to 5,000mAh. This boost delivers approximately 24 hours of battery life under testing conditions—a meaningful improvement over the Z Fold 7’s 20 hours. Display brightness has also increased to 3,000 nits, enhancing visibility in outdoor settings. The camera system receives a modest update with the ultra-wide lens upgraded from 12MP to 50MP, while the main 200MP and 10MP telephoto lenses remain unchanged.
For consumers without an existing foldable device, the Z Fold 8 Ultra represents a compelling option that maintains its market-leading position. However, current Z Fold 7 owners may find the incremental enhancements insufficient to justify an upgrade at the increased price point. The device delivers solid performance and capable cameras, though aggressive digital zoom capabilities remain problematic at higher magnification levels.
