Ring has introduced an updated version of its peephole doorbell camera, the Peephole Cam 2K, which serves as a successor to the Door View Cam released in 2019. The new model can be installed directly through an existing door peephole without requiring drilling or wire installation, making it an attractive option for renters and homeowners. The device is now available for preorder at $99.99, with deliveries expected later this month.
The Peephole Cam 2K features several improvements over its predecessor, including upgraded video quality that jumps from 1080P to 2K resolution and enhanced motion tracking capabilities. The camera consists of two connected components: an external unit housing the camera, doorbell, speaker, and microphone, and an interior section containing electronics and a removable battery that provides approximately 120 days of use between charges. Users must access their smartphone or compatible smart display to view footage, as there is no built-in preview screen on the interior component.
The device delivers real-time motion notifications with descriptions of detected activity and allows users to customize motion detection zones to reduce false alerts from passing vehicles. Additional features such as 180-day event recording and package detection require a separate Ring Protect subscription plan. The two-part design passes through the peephole opening, eliminating the need for extensive installation work while providing remote access and monitoring capabilities.
