Tottenham Hotspur appear set to complete the departure of right-back Djed Spence, with Inter Milan reportedly close to finalising a £26 million transfer. The Italian club has moved swiftly in recent discussions after the player expressed his clear preference for a move to Serie A, accelerating negotiations between the two clubs.
The separation between Spence and Spurs had been anticipated for some time, with both parties and manager Roberto De Zerbi viewing a transfer as the best outcome. Several Premier League sides, including Liverpool, Manchester United, Chelsea, Newcastle, Aston Villa and Everton, were offered the opportunity to sign the defender, but Tottenham’s initial asking price of approximately £45 million deterred interest. Inter’s approach proved more decisive, with the club establishing a firm budget ceiling of €30 million from the outset.
Earlier negotiations between Tottenham and Inter regarding Argentina international Cristian Romero proved beneficial in facilitating the Spence discussions. Although Romero is now destined for Atletico Madrid, the established communication channels helped expedite current talks.
