The Baltimore Ravens have added depth to their running back room by signing veteran Jonathan Ward following their preseason victory over the Philadelphia Eagles. The move came on Sunday, according to reports from league sources.
Ward brings five years of NFL experience to Baltimore after stints with multiple organizations. The 28-year-old was originally signed by the Arizona Cardinals in 2020 as an undrafted free agent from Central Michigan, where he compiled an impressive college resume with over 3,400 scrimmage yards and 32 touchdowns across four seasons. He later played for the Tennessee Titans before appearing in four games with the Pittsburgh Steelers in 2024.
While Ward has limited production at the professional level, tallying just 22 career rushing attempts for 91 yards along with 52 receiving yards and a touchdown, the signing appears to address a depth concern. Running back Rasheen Ali suffered a practice injury earlier in the week that forced him to miss consecutive sessions and Saturday’s preseason game, creating a potential opening in the backfield rotation.
The Ravens already feature established options including Derrick Henry and Justice Hill, with rookie Adam Randall emerging during the preseason opener by leading the team with 46 rushing yards and a touchdown. Ward figures to compete for snaps during upcoming preseason contests as the team evaluates its roster depth ahead of the regular season.
