Nikita Bier, a veteran entrepreneur and venture partner at Lightspeed, has announced his departure as head of product at X, the social media platform owned by Elon Musk. Bier held the position for just over a year, having assumed the role in July 2025. In his announcement, he expressed a desire to return to his previous status as a regular user of the platform, though he indicated he would remain available in an advisory capacity moving forward.
During his tenure, Bier oversaw the introduction of approximately 30 new products while emphasizing the importance of maintaining the platform’s integrity. However, his time in the leadership position coincided with several significant controversies. Notably, the platform faced challenges including incidents involving the AI chatbot Grok and reports of users generating inappropriate imagery on X, issues that drew legal scrutiny to the company.
Bier characterized the role as demanding constant attention, describing it as a “24/7 job.” He stated that stepping down would allow him to take time away from the intense demands of managing product development at one of the world’s most significant communication platforms. His departure marks another leadership transition at X as the company continues to navigate operational and reputational challenges.
