Nevin Harrison has returned to international competition with a strong showing, capturing bronze at the World Championships in Poznan, Poland. The decorated paddler finished third in the 200-meter sprint event, narrowly missing gold by less than a second. Her podium finish marks a significant comeback after stepping away from elite competition for more than a year following the 2024 Paris Olympics.
The 24-year-old Harrison, who earned gold in Tokyo and silver in Paris, took an extended hiatus to focus on personal well-being. During her break, the Seattle native worked part-time as a bartender, pursued surfing, and completed a half marathon. Harrison attributed her decision to step back to the physical and mental toll of competing at the highest levels from an early age, explaining that the demands of success had left her exhausted by her early twenties.
Harrison made her competitive return in May after deciding the time was right to pursue the sport again. She emphasized that her renewed commitment to paddling comes on her own terms, free from the pressures that previously defined her career. With the 2028 Los Angeles Olympics on the horizon, the two-time Olympic medalist has found fresh motivation to compete once more at the Games.
