The 31st Busan International Film Festival has announced its Korean Cinema Today and On Screen program selections, featuring acclaimed filmmaker Na Hong-Jin’s latest project “Hope” as a centerpiece offering. The film, which competed at Cannes earlier this year, boasts an international ensemble cast and large-scale production that generated significant anticipation prior to its theatrical release. The Korean Cinema Today lineup comprises nine works split between Panorama and Special Premiere categories.
The Panorama section showcases six titles, including four world premieres. Director Yoon Dan-bi returns with her second feature “The World Before,” which will premiere at Toronto before screening in Busan, while veteran performer Kim Hye-ja makes her screen comeback after a nine-year hiatus in “Still Shining,” helmed by Song Il-gon. Additional Panorama selections include directorial debuts from Hong Sung-min and Lee Yong-jae, alongside Kim Joung-hoon’s ensemble mystery.
The Special Premiere section, highlighting major Korean commercial releases, presents three world premieres featuring established and emerging talent. Meanwhile, the On Screen program, dedicated to prestige drama series, includes Netflix’s “Dead-End Job” and “Blue Road” alongside Disney+’s “The Remarried Empress,” with each presentation screening selected episodes. The festival runs October 6-15 at the Busan Cinema Center, coinciding with the Asian Contents and Film Market from October 10-13.
