Dakota Wesleyan University’s football program secured its first victory of the season this past Saturday, defeating Doane 34-21 at home in Mitchell. The Tigers, now holding a 1-1 record, will travel to Iowa next weekend to face Waldorf College in their upcoming matchup.
Head coach Alex Kretzschmar, in his third year leading the program, emphasizes the importance of character when assembling his roster. According to Kretzschmar, the university’s primary mission extends beyond athletic performance, focusing instead on helping student-athletes achieve their full potential both on and off the field.
Playing college football at Dakota Wesleyan demands significant commitment from athletes. In addition to competing on Saturdays, players must balance weight training sessions, academic coursework, film study, and various other responsibilities. This multifaceted approach prepares young men for success in all aspects of their lives, requiring them to develop discipline and time-management skills throughout their athletic careers.
