Christopher Nolan’s latest directorial effort, “The Odyssey,” has claimed the top position at the South Korean box office during the August 7-9 weekend. The film earned $10.3 million across 1,798 screens, drawing over 1.3 million viewers and securing nearly 45% of the weekend’s total revenue, according to KOBIS tracking data. Since its wide release on August 5, the production has accumulated $14.4 million domestically.
The superhero sequel “Spider-Man: Brand New Day” slipped to second place in its second weekend of release, generating $9.2 million from approximately 1.26 million admissions. Despite the drop in ranking, the film maintained a substantial 40% market share and has now accumulated $43.7 million in South Korean ticket sales since its launch.
The local animated feature “Teenieping: Legend of the Whale Heartstone” secured third place with $1.9 million in weekend earnings. Meanwhile, the drama “Hope” and the faith-based animated film “David” rounded out the top five positions. The overall South Korean market demonstrated strong performance, with the weekend generating $22.9 million—marking the year’s biggest box office weekend to date and surpassing the previous week’s $20.8 million total.
