The home team’s offensive firepower was on full display from the opening set. Kentucky accumulated 49 total kills compared to North Carolina’s 27, while maintaining a team hitting percentage of .284. The Tar Heels struggled offensively, managing only a .152 hitting rate with 13 attack errors. Morgan Gaerte led the Wildcats’ offensive charge with 17 kills and 11 digs, while Brooklyn DeLeye contributed 15 kills and 8 digs from the outside. Setter Kassie O’Brien orchestrated the attack with 44 assists and kept the North Carolina defense off-balance throughout the match.
Defensively, Kentucky was equally impressive. Libero Molly Tuozzo anchored the back row with 13 digs and demonstrated exceptional ball-handling skills. The Wildcats’ front line, featuring contributions from Lizzie Carr and Kennedy Washington, consistently shut down North Carolina’s attack options.
Kentucky now turns its attention to the inaugural Paradise Invitational in Nassau, Bahamas. The Wildcats will face eighth-ranked SMU on Saturday in their first-round matchup, marking the program’s fifth ranked opponent through seven matches this season.
