Jackson Arnold will take the field as UNLV’s starting quarterback in the team’s Week Zero matchup against Memphis on Saturday, according to an announcement by head coach Dan Mullen. Arnold, who previously played at Oklahoma and Auburn, won the starting position following a competitive offseason battle with former Michigan quarterback Alex Orji.
The signal caller joined Auburn in spring 2025 after two seasons with the Sooners. Despite being a highly touted five-star prospect from Texas, Arnold’s sole year with the Tigers produced mixed results. He completed 1,309 passing yards and six touchdown passes while contributing 311 rushing yards and eight rushing touchdowns, but his reluctance to throw the ball contributed to just two interceptions on the season.
Arnold’s transfer to UNLV represents his third college program. The Rebels are viewed as a potential Group of Five playoff contender, presenting Arnold with an opportunity to demonstrate improved decision-making at the quarterback position. His performance against Memphis will offer an early indication of whether he has made meaningful strides since his disappointing campaign in the SEC.
