HBO has greenlit a second season of “It: Welcome to Derry,” the horror prequel series that debuted on HBO Max in October 2025. The show draws inspiration from Stephen King’s novel and expands on the 2017 and 2019 film adaptations, offering viewers an earlier glimpse into the dark history of the fictional Maine town.
The first season, set in 1962, explored the town’s residents’ encounters with the shapeshifting entity Pennywise. Season 2 will travel back to 1935 during the Great Depression, centering on a deadly confrontation between a gang of bank robbers and the supernatural horrors awaiting them in Derry. This storyline pulls directly from King’s original novel.
The series features creative leadership from the filmmakers behind the recent “It” movies, with Andy and Barbara Muschietti directing and producing alongside Jason Fuchs. Brad Caleb Kane will serve as sole showrunner for the upcoming season, having previously shared that role with Fuchs. The first season’s cast included notable actors such as Bill Skarsgård, Jovan Adepo and Taylour Paige, though casting for Season 2 has not yet been announced.
Creator Andy Muschietti has previously outlined plans for three seasons total, with a potential third installment exploring another event from King’s novel set in 1908. The upcoming season aims to capture the bleakness of Depression-era America while maintaining the underlying sense of hope that defines the narrative.
