Rockstar Games’ parent company, Take-Two Interactive Software Inc., has filed legal action against major tech platforms in an effort to identify the person or persons behind recent Grand Theft Auto VI leaks. The company submitted two Digital Millennium Copyright Act subpoenas on August 20 to a New York federal court, targeting Microsoft and Discord. The filings specifically reference “stolen content,” confirming that at least some of the leaked gameplay footage circulating online is authentic material from the unreleased game.
The subpoenas seek detailed user information from both platforms to identify those responsible for distributing Take-Two’s copyrighted materials. Discord users and servers have been specifically named in the filings, along with GitHub repositories. Take-Two is requesting extensive data including IP addresses, email accounts, phone numbers, and device identifiers associated with accounts linked to the leaker known as Cyberleek. The company has also demanded that GitHub completely remove a specific repository containing the leaked content.
Cyberleek has been consistently releasing gameplay videos and map previews since August 18, with the material spreading across social media platforms and file-sharing services. The leak campaign has overshadowed Rockstar’s marketing efforts, occurring just before a scheduled Netflix exclusive preview. The mysterious leaker has promoted a memecoin alongside the releases and threatened to continue sharing additional footage, while maintaining an online presence through a website and Telegram channel.
