Green Bay West High School football is experiencing unprecedented success this season, winning its first three games and marking the program’s best start in 35 years. The Wildcats dominated rival Green Bay East 37-8 on September 4th at City Stadium, extending their winning streak in the historic matchup to four consecutive victories. This remarkable turnaround comes after decades of struggles for a program that has failed to achieve more than three wins in a single season since 1996, the last time they qualified for the WIAA playoffs.
The team’s offensive and defensive performances have been particularly impressive. West scored 30 points by halftime against East, with running back Kash Lowe and quarterback Urijah Moore leading the charge. The defense has been equally dominant, recording three interceptions against East and allowing just 8 points per game throughout the season. Coach Drew Brusoe attributed the success to improved execution across all units, highlighting the offensive line’s development and the team’s ability to execute multiple running strategies effectively.
The Wildcats’ success mirrors their dominant 1991 season, when they won their first seven games. However, significant challenges loom ahead, with games against stronger conference opponents like Oshkosh North and Menasha, both of whom defeated West decisively last season. Despite this, a path to the playoffs appears possible if West continues performing at current levels and gains some victories against mid-tier conference opponents in the coming weeks.
