Google Play has introduced Venmo as a new payment method for digital purchases on its platform. Users can now use Venmo to buy apps, games, in-app add-ons, and other digital content. The mobile payment service joins an existing roster of payment options that already includes PayPal, Cash App, and major credit cards such as Visa, Mastercard, American Express, and Discover within the United States.
To enable Venmo payments, Google Play users can link their Venmo account through their account settings under payment methods. Once connected, customers have the flexibility to pay using either their Venmo wallet or other linked funding sources, including bank accounts and debit or credit cards. The expanded payment options also allow users to support content creators through tips within various apps.
The addition reflects growing consumer spending on digital content. Global in-app spending reached over $167 billion in 2025 across both iOS and Google Play, marking a 10.6 percent increase from the previous year, according to data from analytics firm Sensor Tower. As digital purchases continue to gain momentum, tech platforms are expanding their payment options to accommodate diverse user preferences and purchasing habits.
