Ford has unveiled Fathom, its new budget-friendly electric pickup truck, which will carry a starting price of $28,350. The vehicle represents the automaker’s first offering built on its newly developed universal electric platform, a manufacturing approach the company has promoted as a transformative moment for affordable EV production.
Unlike stripped-down competitors such as the Slate Truck, the Fathom arrives fully equipped with modern conveniences. The base model includes a large touchscreen display supporting both Apple Maps and smartphone integration through Android Auto and Apple CarPlay. Additionally, the truck will feature sensors compatible with Ford’s Blue Cruise autonomous driving system, though activation of that service will require additional payment. The vehicle offers seating capacity comparable to a Toyota RAV4 and includes both a cargo bed and front trunk storage.
Ford plans to achieve these competitive pricing levels through innovative manufacturing techniques. The new platform enables vehicles to be assembled across multiple parallel production lines, with the front, middle, and rear sections constructed simultaneously before final assembly. This approach, combined with simplified vehicle construction, reduces both component costs and labor expenses. Production of the Fathom will begin at Ford’s Louisville Assembly Plant next year, with customer deliveries expected before the end of 2027. Pre-orders will open in early 2027.
