Films Boutique, a Berlin-based international sales company, has secured worldwide distribution rights to Iranian director Mani Haghighi’s latest documentary ahead of its world premiere at the New York Film Festival. The film, titled “I Deserve a Lover Whose Every Rise Sets Fiery Dooms Raging Across the Skies,” captures an intimate portrait of two contemporary artists and their decades-long archival project.
The documentary is set in the Iranian cities of Tabriz and Tehran during a turbulent period marked by regional conflict. At its center are painter and conceptual artist Nasser Bakhshi and his partner Roghayeh Najdi, who have amassed an expansive collection of overlooked artifacts, photographs, and personal belongings. Their improvised archive functions as both artistic endeavor and historical preservation, documenting forgotten narratives including those of marginalized communities. The couple’s work transforms discarded objects and abandoned memories into a poignant commentary on Iran’s contemporary history.
Films Boutique’s leadership praised the project as Haghighi’s most inventive and culturally significant work to date, comparing his artistic vision to renowned filmmakers including Bergman and Parajanov. This marks the third collaboration between the director and the sales agency, following his 2018 Berlin competition entry “Pig” and the 2022 thriller “Subtraction.” Haghighi, a Tehran native celebrated for blending enigmatic storytelling with sociopolitical commentary, expressed enthusiasm about partnering with Films Boutique to bring this deeply personal documentary to international audiences.
