Pemberton High School has named Ryan Derry as its new boys basketball head coach, according to a decision approved by the school board this week. Derry brings significant coaching experience to the position after spending six years leading the Burlington Township program, where he compiled an 88-68 record and guided his teams to championship game appearances in both 2018 and 2022.
Derry’s connection to Pemberton extends back to his early career, having worked as a baseball coach and assistant under former coach Roy Heck. He expressed enthusiasm about returning to the program where he began his teaching and coaching journey, emphasizing his commitment to restoring pride and stability to the basketball team. Derry also gained additional coaching experience as an assistant at Rancocas Valley under coach Jay Flanagan.
The Hornets finished last season with just two wins, making rebuilding a positive team culture a primary objective. Derry stressed the importance of daily improvement and establishing a competitive mindset, noting that the team will focus on helping players reach their potential both on and off the court. He credited influential coaches throughout his career with shaping his approach to leadership and development.
