Columbia’s football team continued its impressive start to the season Thursday evening, dominating Bethlehem with a shutout victory in Class A competition. The Blue Devils’ 31-0 triumph marked their second consecutive convincing win, following up their Week 1 performance against Queensbury with another dominant display.
The visiting team controlled the contest throughout, recording a substantial 443-138 advantage in total offensive yards while preventing Bethlehem from ever threatening the end zone. Despite a scoreless opening quarter, Columbia’s offense found its rhythm and scored touchdowns through Tyler Connolly’s rushing and passing plays, along with scoring runs by Desmond White and Shudipto Sikder. A field goal from the sophomore kicker added to the point total.
Sikder emerged as the offensive standout, accumulating 113 rushing yards on 13 carries while also making defensive contributions from his linebacker position. The Eagles managed just 14 yards on the ground, highlighting Columbia’s defensive prowess. Head coach Jake Preston praised his team’s cohesion and execution, while senior players credited the offseason preparation and four years of dedicated work for their success.
Columbia improved to 2-0 in Class A play and will travel to Amsterdam on September 19 for their next matchup. Bethlehem, remaining winless at 0-2, will host Mohonasen the following day as the Eagles look to record their first victory of the campaign.
