Sony’s superhero film “Spider-Man: Brand New Day” maintained its commanding position at the China box office during the August 7-9 weekend, earning approximately $28.9 million in its second week of wide release. The movie has accumulated over $185 million since its late July debut, demonstrating strong audience interest in the blockbuster title.
Pearl Studio’s animated fantasy “All Wishes Come True!” claimed the second position with $20.4 million, extending its successful summer theatrical run. Meanwhile, two upcoming releases showed considerable momentum through preview screenings. “Once Upon a Time in the Middle East,” a comedy-drama directed by Wen Muye and featuring actor Shen Teng, earned $15 million ahead of its official August 11 release, while Universal’s “The Odyssey” collected $6.9 million from early preview screenings.
In its opening weekend, Enlight Pictures’ animated romance “To Your Island” generated $7.9 million, rounding out the top five releases. The overall China box office collected $97.3 million across the weekend. Year-to-date revenues through this period reached $3.57 billion, reflecting a significant decline compared to the corresponding timeframe in 2025.
