Three major production companies are joining forces to create an English-language adaptation of a critically acclaimed French-Belgian thriller. AR Content, Vertigo, and Blumhouse Atomic Monster have secured the rights to remake “Vincent Must Die,” which originally debuted at the 2023 Cannes Film Festival’s Directors’ Fortnight program.
The original film, directed by Stéphan Castang, received widespread recognition following its festival premiere, earning nominations for the Caméra d’Or at Cannes and multiple César Awards. The story centers on an ordinary man who becomes the target of violent attacks from anyone who makes eye contact with him. David Leslie Johnson-McGoldrick, known for his work on horror and action films including “The Conjuring: Last Rites” and “Aquaman,” will write and direct the remake in his feature directorial debut.
The production will be overseen by AR Content’s Alexander Rodnyansky alongside Roy Lee of Vertigo Entertainment and Michael Clear of Blumhouse Atomic Monster. Johnson-McGoldrick expressed enthusiasm about the project, noting his immediate connection to the material and appreciation for his collaborators’ trust in his vision. Clear similarly praised Johnson-McGoldrick’s storytelling abilities and cinematic sensibilities, emphasizing the team’s commitment to bringing the adaptation to audiences worldwide.
