Melissa Rauch, best known for her role on “The Big Bang Theory,” has taken on an unexpected and dramatically different character in the new HBO Max series “Stuart Fails to Save the Universe.” In the third episode of the show’s first season, titled “Spoiler: Bert Is Magic,” Rauch’s character Bernadette transforms into a towering demon version of herself, standing 60 feet tall and wreaking havoc on a miniature Pasadena.
The episode takes place in an alternate universe where magic replaces science, and the main characters must seek Bernadette’s help to operate their multiverse-traveling device. Initially appearing as her familiar self, Bernadette reveals she is actually a powerful demon intent on conquering the universe and stealing the machine. Her transformation into a giant monster becomes the climactic moment of the episode, forcing the protagonists to escape.
Rauch expressed enthusiasm about the role in an interview, noting that creator Chuck Lorre pitched it as a chance to explore a completely reimagined version of the character. She praised her castmates, including Kevin Sussman and Brian Posehn, calling them talented comedians. The actress particularly enjoyed the technical aspects of the production, wearing a motion capture suit while walking through a specially constructed miniature city set that she could interact with and destroy.
“Stuart Fails to Save the Universe” Season 1 is currently available for streaming on HBO Max.
