Sen. Mitch McConnell of Kentucky announced Thursday that he has left a rehabilitation facility nearly two months after being admitted to a Washington hospital. In a statement, McConnell expressed gratitude for medical care and support from colleagues and constituents during his recovery period. He noted that his wife, Elaine, has stood by him throughout the ordeal.
McConnell was initially hospitalized on June 14, though the reason remained unclear for several weeks, prompting widespread speculation about his condition. He later disclosed that a fall had led to his hospitalization. Medical tests ruled out serious injuries and illnesses, including broken bones, concussion, heart attack, and stroke. However, he did develop a mild case of pneumonia while receiving hospital care.
Following his discharge, McConnell plans to continue recovery at home under medical supervision. He stated he will maintain a rigorous physical therapy schedule and continue working with Senate staff on legislative matters during the state work period. His health challenges have surfaced publicly in recent years, including past hospitalizations and mobility issues that have required him to use a wheelchair in the Capitol.
