Kit Connor, the rising actor known for his role in the television series “Heartstopper,” is in negotiations to join the Marvel Cinematic Universe. The casting discussions center on portraying Cyclops, the mutant superhero whose real name is Scott Summers and whose signature ability involves projecting powerful energy beams from his eyes.
If the deal is finalized, Connor will become part of an expanding mutant ensemble for Marvel Studios. He would share the screen with Samara Weaving, who has been cast as Emma Frost, a character transitioning from villain to hero. Director Jake Schreier, who previously helmed “Thunderbolts,” will helm the upcoming film.
This project marks the first standalone X-Men film since Disney’s acquisition of 21st Century Fox in 2019. The studio has begun tapping into its mutant library through recent blockbusters, including “Deadpool & Wolverine” and “The Fantastic Four: First Steps.” Following the upcoming December release “Avengers: Doomsday,” which will feature returning mutant characters from previous films, Marvel plans to introduce a younger generation of heroes to revitalize the franchise. Sadie Sink from “Stranger Things” has also joined the MCU as Jean Grey.
