A24 has unveiled a trailer for its upcoming thriller “Primetime,” featuring actor Robert Pattinson in the role of Chris Hansen, the investigative journalist and television host. The film centers on Hansen’s work with the controversial NBC true crime program “To Catch a Predator,” which aired during the mid-2000s and gained significant viewership through its confrontational approach to exposing criminal activity.
Directed by Lance Oppenheim, the project examines Hansen’s efforts to produce the polarizing series, which employed undercover journalism techniques, hired actors as decoys, and utilized hidden cameras to identify and document individuals attempting to solicit sex from minors online. The operation involved collaboration between Hansen’s team, law enforcement officials, and the nonprofit organization Perverted Justice to confront suspects on camera. The show’s ratings increased substantially as viewers tuned in to watch these confrontations unfold.
The film features an ensemble cast alongside Pattinson, including Merritt Wever, Skyler Gisondo, and musician Phoebe Bridgers, who makes her acting debut in the production. The movie is scheduled for theatrical release on September 25, following its world premiere at the 83rd Venice International Film Festival.
