The latest Spider-Man installment has shattered box office records in its opening week. “Spider-Man: Brand New Day,” produced by Sony and Marvel and featuring Tom Holland and Zendaya, has earned $1.155 billion globally within just seven days of theatrical release. The film surpassed “Toy Story 5” to claim the top spot as 2026’s highest-grossing movie, with domestic earnings reaching $449 million and international revenue totaling $706.3 million.
The film’s performance has set multiple benchmarks throughout its initial run. It achieved the largest domestic opening weekend in cinema history with $360 million and reached the $400 million mark in North America faster than any previous film, accomplishing this feat in four days. The movie also crossed the $1 billion threshold in six days, making it the second-fastest film ever to reach that milestone, trailing only 2019’s “Avengers: Endgame.”
Industry executives attributed the blockbuster success to both the character’s enduring appeal and Holland’s portrayal. Marvel Studios president Kevin Feige praised the actor’s ability to bring the character to life, noting that the combination of an evolving character and talented casting creates a “magic formula” for success. Sony Pictures chairman Tom Rothman humorously commented on the results, questioning whether cinema’s relevance had been overestimated by skeptics.
