Sophie Fleur de Bruijn, a U.S.-based playwright, writer, director and performer, has signed with CAA for representation. The move comes on the heels of significant success in the entertainment industry, particularly following the sale of her original romantic comedy spec script “The One Month Mark” to Apple, with acclaimed actor Jennifer Lawrence attached to star.
The script, which centers on two characters with opposite relationship patterns—one unable to sustain romance beyond a month and another unable to remain single for that duration—generated competitive interest in the marketplace before being acquired by Chernin Entertainment for the streaming platform. Lawrence and her producing partner Justine Ciarrocchi will also serve as producers on the project alongside the production company.
Bruijn has demonstrated consistent momentum in Hollywood through her spec scripts and directing work. She previously helmed the social horror-comedy “Polycule” and has another Apple project in development titled “Early Action,” her first feature spec script that the company acquired last year. The latter project, about parents pursuing their son’s college admissions, is being developed by Kevin Walsh and The Walsh Company.
Beyond her film work, Bruijn trained as a comedian at Chicago’s iO and The Upright Citizens Brigade Theatre and is a Second City Conservatory graduate. Her original play “One Dick For Life,” described as a horror comedy about a bachelorette trip, earned recognition as a Goodman New Stages semifinalist and Weissberger Award nominee.
