Phoebe Bridgers’ upcoming album “Lost Weekend” features an intriguing mystery. The project credits a vocalist named “Son John-Johnson” on two tracks: “Kill Me” and “I Can’t Wait.” On the former, the credited artist provides backing vocals, while on the latter, he shares a duet with Bridgers, singing “All my life/Side by side/Hyde Jekyll Hyde/Finally together” in harmony.
The identity of this pseudonymous performer has sparked considerable speculation among music listeners. The voice on both tracks bears a striking resemblance to Cameron Winter, the frontman of rock band Geese, whose distinctive raw falsetto is highly recognizable in contemporary music. When asked about the connection, Winter responded with humor, joking that he would “have to contact my lawyer.” A representative for Bridgers declined to comment on the matter.
Winter has previously demonstrated a playful approach to anonymity, having performed a secret solo show earlier this year under the alias “Chet Chomsky.” The album arrives August 14 and marks Bridgers’ first solo release in six years, following 2020’s “Punisher.” She will launch the accompanying Lost Tour on September 15 in Indianapolis, with performances designed to remain device-free.
