The overnight assault employed ballistic missiles and unmanned aerial vehicles, leaving destruction across multiple regions including Kharkiv and Donetsk. Substantial fires broke out following the bombardment, affecting approximately 230,000 square meters across the Kyiv region, while rescue operations continued as authorities feared additional casualties trapped beneath collapsed structures.
Ukraine’s President Volodymyr Zelensky highlighted that adequate air defense systems could have prevented the loss of life, pointing to insufficient supplies of Patriot missile interceptors from allied nations. The Ukrainian military reported failing to intercept any ballistic missiles during the overnight attack, though air defense systems successfully shot down 98 of 115 launched drones. Recent statistics demonstrate a concerning decline in missile interception rates compared to the previous year, coinciding with a dramatic 83 percent increase in Russian missile launches this month.
Moscow’s defense ministry claimed the operation targeted military logistics facilities and weapons supply centers throughout the Kyiv region. Russian officials also reported striking cargo vessels near the Black Sea port of Odesa allegedly transporting military cargo. Meanwhile, Ukraine continued its own operations against Russian infrastructure, including a successful drone strike on a warehouse facility in Russia’s Tula region.
