Italian sales firm True Colours has acquired international distribution rights for “A Common Story,” a directorial debut by actress-turned-filmmaker Anna Foglietta. The marriage drama features Alba Rohrwacher in the lead role and is set to premiere at both the Venice and Toronto film festivals this September.
The film follows Erika and Mauro, a rural couple whose relationship is tested when their daughter departs for university overseas. As their home becomes emptier, the two must confront the foundations of their marriage and determine whether they can evolve together. Rohrwacher is joined by actor Guido Caprino in the ensemble cast.
Foglietta has gained recognition internationally for her acting work, including an appearance in the Italian box office success “Perfect Strangers” and her role as host of the Venice Film Festival’s 77th edition. The production brings together multiple Italian production companies and broadcasters, with distribution in Italy handled by BIM Distribuzione.
True Colours’ leadership expressed enthusiasm for championing emerging Italian talent through the project. The company’s 2026 lineup also includes works by directors Dario Albertini and Susanna Nicchiarelli, as well as a documentary featuring interviews with acclaimed international filmmakers.
