Zelenskyy emphasized that the casualties could have been prevented with adequate air defense systems. He pointed out that the primary targets were civilian warehouses housing businesses unrelated to military operations, including construction materials, brewing facilities, and logistics hubs. The Ukrainian leader stressed that the shortage of ballistic missile interceptors directly contributed to the destruction and loss of life, urging Western allies to prioritize deliveries of anti-ballistic defense systems.
Meanwhile, discussions are underway between US officials and Ukraine regarding solutions to replenish depleted Patriot missile stocks. Proposed options include allowing Ukraine to manufacture components domestically with final assembly in Germany, producing a more affordable missile variant, or incorporating Ukraine into joint US-European production programs. In response, Ukraine struck Russian targets including the country’s largest online retailer and an oil refinery.
