Danielle Fishel, known for her role as Topanga Lawrence on the ABC sitcom “Boy Meets World,” announced on Monday that she has been diagnosed with breast cancer. The 43-year-old actress disclosed the diagnosis during an episode of her podcast, Pod Meets World, sharing that the cancer was detected at a very early stage following a routine mammogram screening.
Fishel explained that she received a diagnosis of ductal carcinoma in situ (DCIS), classified as stage zero breast cancer. She stated that she will undergo surgery to remove the affected tissue and receive additional follow-up treatment. The actress emphasized that her prognosis is positive due to the early detection of her condition.
The star chose to publicly share her diagnosis to encourage others to prioritize their health screenings. Fishel noted that she almost postponed her annual mammogram appointment but ultimately decided to keep the scheduled visit, which led to the cancer’s discovery. She stressed the importance of not delaying preventive care, stating that early detection significantly improves outcomes.
Fishel’s podcast cohosts and longtime friends Will Friedle and Rider Strong were among the first people she told about her diagnosis. Both expressed their support for the actress during the episode, with Strong noting that several people in his life are currently battling breast cancer. Fishel indicated that while she intends to continue her podcast work, some episodes may require adjustments to her schedule during treatment.
