Distributor 1-2 Special has secured theatrical rights to “Closure,” a documentary by filmmaker Michał Marczak that premiered at the Sundance Film Festival. The company plans to release the film in cinemas on October 28, bringing the critically acclaimed project to wider audiences across the United States.
The documentary centers on Daniel Dymiński’s desperate search for his missing son, Chris, who disappeared near Warsaw’s Gdańsk Bridge. Using various tools including homemade devices, GPS trackers, and drones, Daniel methodically searches the Vistula River while grappling with the uncertain reality that answers may never come. The film explores how the family navigates grief, loss, and the persistent hope that keeps them searching.
“Closure” garnered significant recognition following its festival debut, earning praise from major publications for its emotional depth and visual artistry. The film has competed internationally at prestigious festivals including True/False, Sheffield DocFest, and the Thessaloniki Documentary Festival, where it won the top prize and secured eligibility for Academy Award consideration in the documentary feature category.
This marks the fourth feature from Marczak, whose 2016 documentary “All These Sleepless Nights” won the best director award at Sundance. The filmmaker expressed enthusiasm about the theatrical release, noting that the film’s intimate story resonates powerfully when experienced collectively in a cinema setting with audiences.
