Roku has introduced a new free streaming channel dedicated entirely to artificial intelligence-generated content, marking a significant shift in how the platform approaches programming. The channel, powered by startup Fairground, joins three other new offerings featuring classic television episodes and sitcoms on Roku’s expanding library of ad-supported channels.
Fairground, founded in 2025, has partnered with Roku to provide round-the-clock AI-generated programming as part of the platform’s free streaming service. The startup is simultaneously developing its own adaptations of classic stories including Robin Hood and Dracula, signaling broader ambitions beyond this initial distribution deal.
However, the channel’s content reveals significant limitations in current AI video generation technology. Viewers encounter largely unpolished short-form videos lacking consistent themes or genres, with visible artifacts of machine-generated imagery and audio. While some programming demonstrates basic narrative structure, the overall quality gap becomes starkly apparent when traditional commercials interrupt the stream, highlighting the contrast between human-crafted and AI-produced entertainment.
Fairground emphasizes that content creators receive compensation for their generated work alongside revenue sharing from the platform. The company promotes the channel as “living room” entertainment rather than social media content, suggesting a specific target audience for this experimental programming approach.
