Dyer took over the role in June and is making his first venture into management following coaching positions at Ipswich Town and Chesterfield. He acknowledged the mental and emotional demands of leading a club of Southend’s stature, describing the weight of responsibility he carries for the team, staff, and organization. Despite admitting initial uncertainties about his readiness for the position, Dyer has grown in confidence and maturity since his earlier coaching roles.
The club bolstered its squad significantly over the summer transfer window, recruiting ten new players to strengthen their challenge. This follows a disappointing end to the previous campaign when Southend fell in the playoff semi-finals, continuing their efforts to return to the Football League after several years of competing in non-league football.
