Publicis Groupe, the major French advertising conglomerate, has joined forces with Kansas City Chiefs tight end Travis Kelce to establish a new venture aimed at streamlining partnerships between advertisers and college athletes. The collaboration, which also includes 3 Arts Sports, marks a significant response to the expanding market for name, image and likeness deals in collegiate sports.
The new agency, called Tekta, will serve as a matchmaking platform connecting brands with student-athletes and universities. The platform will leverage Publicis Sports’ existing advertiser relationships and Kelce’s professional background to facilitate deals while ensuring compliance with NCAA regulations and state requirements. Initial access will be granted to select Publicis Sports clients who will gain entry to a network encompassing 45,000 Division 1 athletes across 68 universities.
The NIL market has experienced substantial growth since NCAA rules changed in 2021, expanding to an estimated value of $4.5 billion. Industry data suggests college athletes generate higher engagement rates with their followers compared to traditional influencers. Publicis Sports leadership highlighted the challenge brands face when attempting to connect with audiences at local, regional and national levels, citing the complexity of navigating the current landscape as a primary obstacle the new venture aims to solve.
