Netflix is venturing into scripted baseball drama with a new project centered on the New York Yankees. The streaming platform is partnering with MLB Studios, actor Jason Bateman’s production company Aggregate Films, and creator Josh Wakely to develop the untitled series exploring one of professional sports’ most storied franchises across multiple eras of its history.
The Yankees represent a natural subject for such a project, boasting an unparalleled legacy in baseball. The organization has captured 27 World Series championships—more than any other North American sports franchise—and counts 52 Hall of Famers among its players and managers, including legendary figures like Babe Ruth, Lou Gehrig, Joe DiMaggio and Mickey Mantle.
Wakely secured the series concept rights from MLB and will serve as executive producer through his Grace: A Storytelling Company. The project expands Netflix’s growing relationship with Major League Baseball, which already includes streaming agreements covering opening night games, the Home Run Derby, and special events through 2028. Aggregate Films, which recently earned seven Emmy nominations for the limited series “Black Rabbit,” brings considerable experience to the venture through its previous collaborations with Netflix on projects including “Ozark” and “Hit Man.”
