Olympique de Marseille is seeking to negotiate a higher transfer fee for Brazilian winger Igor Paixão following an initial proposal from English Premier League club Sunderland. The French side has identified the 26-year-old as a key asset to offload during the closing stages of the summer transfer window, despite manager Bruno Genesio’s preference to retain him at the club.
Club ownership and management have determined that selling Paixão is financially necessary and recognize his considerable market appeal. The former Feyenoord player, who previously represented Brazil at youth international level, has generated interest from multiple quarters, including other Premier League sides and clubs in Saudi Arabia, in addition to Sunderland’s interest.
Although Marseille is working to secure improved terms for the wide forward’s departure, Sunderland currently maintains the strongest position in pursuing his signature. The outcome of potential further bids from the Black Cats before the transfer deadline remains uncertain as negotiations continue.
